September, September!

Hello again! If you are like me, then you, too, are looking forward to the changes that September brings. My kids have settled into their school routine, the days are starting to be visibly shorter, the cicadas have *finally* stopped singing. And I can hardly wait for cooler temps!

While I wait for the cool weather, I'll be happily scrapping with September's "Valley Girl" kit. Isn't that a cute and oh-so-perfect name? I am in love with all the dreamy flowers that come with the kit or as add-ons. Plus, TWO sets of alphas IN THE KIT. And buttons, too. You just can't go wrong with buttons.

Let me share, too, some sneaky peeks of what I've created with August's "Fun in the Sun" kit. This was such a wonderful combination of Summer's best colors -- the rusty red, distressed lime, ocean blue, and sunshine yellow. It's a very versatile color palette, and even more so with the addition of the textured kraft cardstock that's included in the kit. And the big printed twill pieces were such a neat embellie. I loved them!

It's friday and it's time for a peek...

Hey there everyone TGIF!  It's an extra good Friday for me because I get my monthly massage today...wish I could go every week but that's a totally different post.LOL.

So I've got a couple of peeks to show you from my "Fun in the Sun" projects.  This is such an awesome kit...love all the bright "fun" colors.  So far I've got 4 layouts. Only 2 are finished at this point and 2 others are in progress( not sure how I got off track and started another layout, but I guess the inspiration was flowing that night) and maybe I can get a couple of cards done too. 

So speaking off fun bright colors take a look at this peek...

Seriously, are they not fun happy colors? I really can't believe I used a piece of pattern paper that was orange as my background(not an orange girl at all...but it works and I'm happy with the result)

On this layout I used some of the add on pattern papers...

The glittered & white waves came from a piece in the add on as did the footprints.  I think Lisa mentioned in her video that the kraft cardstock you get in the kit is textured and reminds you of sand...well it really does I love it.

So with August just days away it means the Design Team has picked their kits for September already. Are you a Valley Girl or Preppy Boy this month?  I'm going with Preppy Boy...love the blue & green combo. Those SassLass papers are something else!  Then combine that with some BG Oliver...YUM!  Not to say that Valley Girl is fantastic either...bright, pink, cheery, yummy new Cosmo Delovely:swoon:

Okay before I drool all over my computer(scrappy supplies do that to me sometimes:wink:) I'll say good-bye until next week.

Post-August, get it? I was trying to think of a unique way to say "September"...

Oh, well.

When I saw the kits for September, I was so excited because they are full of some of my absolute favorite manufacturers! I'll be working with the first kit (It doesn't have a name yet, but I thought of a good one...how about Lydia? And kit #2 could be Wickham. Yep, you got it - my favorite book is Pride & Prejudice!)and I am so excited to get those Tiny Type Alphas because I love to use them - for quotes especially. I'm also love, love, loving that paper with the flowers on ledger paper. Yum. 

Next time I'll post sneaks of my projects, I promise! I just forgot to take pictures while it was light outside and now it's so dark and they'd be all shadowy...

September's A-Comin'!

 It is only a little over a month until my school cherubs return... I know many of you are anxious for the kits that are coming in early fall! September kit #2 caught my eye immediately... loving the Sassafras Indie Girl and Basic Grey Oliver elements! 

 

There are a variety of yummy add-ons available for Kit #2 as well! Ooohhh... yummy Prima collections! And so much more!

 
 And now I leave you with some sneaks of my August projects... I had the pleasure of working with both kits this month, and I am still wrapping up two-three fun projects to share with you in August! Have a fabulous week, everyone!

         

September kits - ready???

 Wow - it's almost time to choose September kits already!  This week the Design Team will either be sharing sneak peeks of their August kit projects (mine aren't finished yet!) and/or sharing with you which kit they chose for September and why. 

Totally digging this far-out groovy kit - the colors are making me SO HAPPY!  Do you know that in this kit, for the *first time EVER*, you are getting two complete alphas???  TWO sets of Tiny Alphas!  Oh my!  And the 12x12 element sticker sheet?  I am dreaming about those large brackets... *dreaming*

Do any of these add-ons catch your eye?  I am most looking forward to these beautiful solid, bright, Prima flowers with rhinestone center - they're a great size and I can just envision them on a black background, so bright and pretty!

Short and Sweet Sunday

 
 
Hello from Marielle, hope you are all having a fun weekend.

The August Parade kit includes a great little canvas banner and today I will show you (play by play) how I made my "you are a star" banner.

#1-Hammer in 2 large grommets at each end of the banner,to attach the wire.

#2- Cut out a large strip of the stripped paper and sew on to canvas piece ,as seen below.

#3 -Add sticker strip from the Pink Paislee element stickers add-on.

#4- Using a star template,cut out a large star in red and using a punch a smaller one in the stripped paper.

#5-Adhere small banner stickers to red paper and trim edges.

#7-Add tags and title stickers.

#8- Add wire,ribbons and buttons and voila, you are done !!!

Making the most of your kits, part two!

Good morning, ladies! As promised here is part two of my two-part series on making the most out of your kits.

Hold out until the very end! Got a bunch of paper scraps leftover? Don't throw them out. If you don't have any uncut pieces of patterned paper or cardstock left over, find a matching or neutral sheet of cardstock and use those scraps to make a layout. Scraps also make great card embellishments. Even small pieces can become great page elements, like the strips I used in my layout “Backseat Boys”.

Not a theme gal? I'm not big on themed papers so it's not unusual for me to use them in a non-themed way. With last October's Halloween-themed "Bewitched" kit, I created this layout using a photo of me and my then-baby-Ryan.

Layers, layers, layers. Layers add tons of visual appeal and make it look like you put a ton of effort into your project, but they're so easy to create. Layers are not only a great way to use embellies and paper scraps, but a great way to stretch your supply. On this layout, for example, I used only a small piece of the black grid pp, allowing  me to save the rest for another (or several other) projects.

It's all in the packaging. Have you ever noticed that sometimes the packaging is almost as yummy as the items inside? I also like the cut-off strips at the bottoms of papers. Even if they have the manufacturer's name and other info on them, often the middle of the strip is blank and it coordinates with the paper! The negative shapes from sticker sheets can make great embellies, too, like in this layout. Here, the "wave" sticker strip above the photo is what was left after using a scalloped sticker strip. And the blue strip below the photo was cut off of a sheet of pp.

Keep on keepin' on. The last tip I'd like to share is a simple method that helps me get several projects out of a kit -- just keep going! If there are kit parts left, then something can be made from them. I challenges myself each month to use as much of the kit as possible. And along with the other kit-stretching tips I've shared, the result is five, six or even more projects from a single kit.

Just the Basics

Hey there everybody, Happy Friday!

Well earlier this week when I was thinking about what I was going to do for my "creative" post, I decided I was going to do a layout featuring products from the CC store.  Sitting in my "new stuff" bin was some papers and stickers from Basic Grey's "Basics" line.  I had used a few of the trims & labels in June's Jack kit, but hadn't used any of the papers yet. I love this collection it is perfect for me!  A big staple in my scrapping supplies are neutral cardstocks that I use for most of my backgrounds.  The collection comes in white, manilla, and kraft and it combines my love for some neutral colors with patterned papers.

Here's a layout I did last night...

In this layout I combined trims from both the kraft & manilla collections, label stickers from the kraft, and the paper is from the manilla collection. (You can shop for your Basics products here)  What I love about using neutrals is that the color just pops off the page...look at those reds!

Another thing I wanted to point out is sometimes you need to go beyond the basics.  By this I'm referring to the basic use of an item.  Most people use tags and "sprouts" for journaling and I do too, but here I used them in a different way. Love,love,love sprouts. They can be used for journaling, as design elements, and here I used one to frame a smaller picture.  I also used a variety of tags to mat my picture.  I needed something to hold my picture and the tags give it some visual interest.

Post name suggestions here on the Blog by Tuesday, July 27 at midnight MST.  One lucky person will receive a fun gift from CC if their kit name suggestions are selected!

KIT 1 includes all NEW products: paper from the Cosmo Cricket Delovely line and Bo Bunny Petal Pushers line; cardstock from Bazzill; and embellishments that include Cosmo Cricket tiny type alphabets, Bo Bunny Petal Pushers 12x12 chipboard and some buttons & bling, as well as a Prima gypsy flower.

KIT 2 includes all NEW products: paper from the Sassafras Lass Indie Girl line and Basic Grey Oliver line; Bazzill cardstock; and embellishments that include Sassafras Lass Indie Girl sweet treats stickers and some flag banner stickers, some Basic Grey Oliver small details and one ribbon doilie, Basic Grey Olivia micro mono alphabet, and some Jenni Bowlin office chipboard buttons as well as vintage buttons.

We are going to try something a bit different this month with addons.  There will only be paper and cardstock addons for one kit.  Each kit will still have embellishment addons.
