Hello and how are you this Saturday? I hope the day finds you well and happy. I, for one, am giving up Mafia Wars on Facebook for the weekend (no eye rolling, please!) so I can play around with September's "Valley Girl" kit.
For me, this was one of those kits that I wasn't too sure about when I saw the preview pics, but now that I have it in my hands, I'm in LOVE! The Cosmo Cricket "DeLovely" line is so very pretty. The kit includes a delicious sunny yellow circle print, a dreamy pink floral, plus some wonderfully matching papers from Bo Bunny, too. And you get the entire 12x12 sheet of Bo Bunny's super cute "Petal Pushers" chipboard. And I promise to get both girl AND boy layouts out of it, too!
Okay, now let me show you a little bit more of what I did with August's "Fun in the Sun" kit, and "reveal" some of the process that went into creating these layouts.
My first project was "Exploring River Legacy Park". All pics are 4x6 or trimmed down from 4x6. I almost always use standard 4x6 pics. Since I don't print my own, this size is the easiest and cheapest solution for me. And, as usual, I mounted the pics on white cs. To draw out the colors in the photos, I chose the rusty orange pp matted on the brown cs. Some touches of blue from the Thickers and other kit embellies complete the color scheme.
My next project is "Summer Lovin' Sunkissed Boy". Doncha' just love the versatility of this kit? First, I made a layout with a very Fall feel to it, and then -- with the very same kit -- I made this bright, sunny, funky Summer-y page. I started with the vibrant green Fancy Pants paper with the subtle dot print. I then cut out some of the words from the AC word paper, leaving a white edge around them, to serve as part of my title. Some teal blue Thickers (from my stash) placed on top of a kit sticker completed the title. The photo is a 5x7 pic of my son, Ryan, at the beach for the first time. He had such a grand time playing the surf. Good times, ladies. Good times.
Next, I made this layout with a very long title, that I'm just going to refer to as "Forever". LOL. The quote is from a Train song called "Marry Me". I was going for that "creatively random" look that I talked about in one of Susie's QODs a few weeks ago. You can find the forum thread here. To try to get that look, I started with some Glimmer Mist on the brown cs. I decided to forgo my usual white cs mat and instead used Pink Paislee Artisan Tape, letting the edges of it curl up a bit. I also used two different alphas (the BG Micro Monos are from the CC store), using both upper and lower BGs and placing them so they look sort of jumbled. Lastly, I added some "messy" machine stitching.
This last project "Cake-Friends-Lots of Fun", really gave me a mental workout. I just loved that red-dotted yellow paper and knew I wanted to use it, but could not find the right photo for it. I finally settled on this one and set about creating a birthday layout. The vertical blue strip is accented with circles punched from kit paper. The AC word paper from the kit inspired my title blocks. I simply added Doodlebug alphas to various papers (the red is from my stash) then cut them out and mounted them on white cs (also from my stash).
Thanks for stopping by today and having a look at my sctuff. I hope you've found something to inspire you to create. Have a fabulous Saturday!
